Taita Cricket is proud to partner with NZ Blood Service to create the opportunity for members of Taita Cricket, fellow Fraser Park Founding member clubs, fellow Cricket Clubs and Community groups to attend a event to confirm your blood type and sign up to donate blood, plasma or bone marrow. This donation will save a life.
Please attend a blood type identification event at Ricoh Sports Centre Fraser Park between 5.30 and 7.30 pm on Wednesday the 11th of October.
The Team from NZ Blood Services will determine your blood type and hopefully sign you up to donate blood, plasma or bone marrow at a time and venue of your choice.
We have also invited the Bone Marrow Registry people https://www.bonemarrow.org.nz/
The Bone Marrow Services needs to get more people on there registry –people with leukaemia can often need a bone marrow transplant and not everyone has a family match – this is where the bone marrow registry steps in and they try to locate a match from anywhere around the world.
Signing up to be on the register does not automatically mean you will have to donate! It does mean that you will be open to donating if you match with someone. As with donating blood or plasma, there is no pressure on a person to donate if they match with someone. They would be asked and if it is not right for them at the time, then all they need to do is say no. We do not plead or pressure anyone to do anything that they are not comfortable with doing.
In the last 12 months in NZ there has been only 10 matches made through the registry – so the chances of matching with someone is quite small – but not zero!
Taita Cricket will draw from a hat two names of those that sign up to donate blood, plasma or bone marrow – the winners will receive a $100 bar/ café voucher for use at the Ricoh Sports Centre
